Why ‘Breakthrough’ Is a ‘Must-See’ Movie for Christians

Dr. Ted Baehr, publisher of Movieguide.org, and Evy Baehr Carroll recently reviewed the movie Breakthrough, which debuted in theaters this weekend to over $11 million at the domestic box office.

In his review, Baehr says, “It’s a very well-made movie. It’s a very powerful movie. It’s a very hope-inspiring movie. And it’s a movie that tells you what happens when you turn to God in prayer. … There’s a lot of powerful scenes. It’s about struggling. It’s not really an easy believism. It’s about struggling with the problems you face, although God shows up in the midst of our struggles. So I thought it was a very good movie. I think it’s worthwhile to see. In fact, I think it’s a must-see movie, so I hope you like it as much as I did.”

Regarding the movie’s appropriateness for small children, Baehr says, “I’d say that because of the falling through the ice, maybe a little older children—9 or 10 and up—but it’s really a very broad audience movie. There’s no foul language. There’s no nudity. The violence is actually falling through the ice.”
