Pause for a moment and enjoy peaceful worship featuring a perhaps-unexpected soloist: pop star Justin Bieber.

Bieber participated in The Freedom Experience concert, which took place following 1DayLA’s massive volunteer outreach in Southern California July 18-24. The concert also featured Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes, Tori Kelly, Chandler Moore from Maverick City Music, Chance the Rapper and Jayden Smith.

The Freedom Experience took its name from Bieber’s first gospel EP, Freedom, which he released on Easter Sunday, per chvnradio.com. This song, “Purpose,” seems to express some of what Bieber lacked in his prodigal days and now finds in the renewal of his relationship with Jesus Christ:

“Look at all these tears I’ve wept/ Look at all the promises that I’ve kept.

“I put my all into Your hands, here’s My soul to keep

“I let You in all that I can/You’re not hard to reach.

“And You bless me with the best gift that I’ve ever known/ You give me purpose, every day.”
