Perry Stone Speaks Out About Secular Media: ‘Information Can Be Twisted by the God of This World’

Editor’s Note: The teaching by Perry Stone reflected here had been pre-recorded and was not intended as a response to recent allegations against him.

Evangelist Perry Stone of Cleveland, Tennessee-based Perry Stone Ministries and Voice of Evangelism has a word for the secular media amid the media-driven controversy swirling around him this week, and it comes from experience. He has worked from more than 32 years with television, he says, noting that he does not receive royalties from his weekly Manna-Fest broadcasts. Instead, all the money goes back into VOE. Secular media, however, is driven by one thing: Money.

“In any media, whether it’s magazine, paper or the secular television media, if the viewing audience begins to decline and go down, they depend on revenue from the sale of advertisements,” Stone says in a video released this week. “And so they have to keep the ratings up, the viewing audience up, the paper sales up, the magazine sales up, not only to clear a better profit, but to also help in the ratings of being able to say … ‘We have X number of viewers.'”

Stone says money lies at the heart of what we see, hear and read from secular media: “It’s really about marketing and advertising dollars … It’s not always about what’s true or not; it’s about the advertising dollars.” Although he says this business model is not inherently wrong, he also says, “information can be twisted by the god of this world so easily.”

VOE, in a statement to Charisma News included here, says the recent accusations about Stone reported in the Chattanooga Free Press contain nothing new, noting separately that they refer only to those from which the evangelist repented last year.
