As chaos and evil continue to ensue after the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, preachers like Jack Hibbs of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills in Chino, California, are rising up to pray for the protection of God’s sons and daughters who remain in the war-torn country.
Hibbs compared the Taliban to a man named Saul of Tarsus, who persecuted Christians but was redeemed through the blood of Christ and became Paul, a man who spent the rest of his life working tirelessly for the kingdom.
In a service this week, Hibbs prayed this prayer:
Lord, we come before You this evening, that our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan are protected by You, and Lord, if they are to be martyred, may your grace overwhelm them to where their departure from this world is such an amazing witness to the Muslims that Satan loses his grip on them. America may have been defeated in Afghanistan, but that doesn’t matter in the grand scheme. The true grand scheme is that Satan loses this really big, and he loses big because souls are being snatched from his grip and brought into the bosom of Jesus Christ.
So we pray in that name, that name which is above every name … that at the name of Jesus Christ, the Taliban will bow. Heavenly Father, we pray that You will illuminate even a sunlit sky over Afghanistan now, and there will be manifestations of angels …. even the most demon-possessed, vicious terrorist would hear the voice of Jesus. Father, not too far from there, in Jerusalem, in Damascus, a man was conducting himself very much like the Taliban. That man was Saul of Tarsus. He was arresting, beating, torturing Christians, and You appeared to him in the bright noon day sun. So Father God, in the name of Jesus, based on Scripture, it has happened once, and it can happen again.
“Please dear God in heaven, bring home or bring out our brothers and sisters, your sons and daughters. Father, we pray that You would anoint and bless every diplomatic leverage that is being used right now. You are God; You are Lord. Father, we pray for whomever it is behind this presidency, this state department, whatever it is, the Department of Defense, pull it because it is evil. It is pure, godless, Christless evil. And God, please, remember the covenant promises of this nation’s founding …
