‘Following Jesus’ Call’: Holy Land Site Offers Virtual Lenten Pilgrimage

Experience Magdala is a Holy Land-based archeological site in a location widely believed to be the one where Jesus did most of His teaching.

Starting off their celebration of Lent with Ash Wednesday, today, Feb. 17, the team at Magdala.org is offering virtual experiences in lieu of their normally scheduled, in-person “Lenten Virtual Pilgrimage in Faith” through the Holy Land.

The tours will take place daily during the Lenten season, a time which many Christians observe, from Feb. 15 to March 27, 2021.

Father Eamon Kelly shared with CBN News the goal of the pilgrimage: “We’re following Jesus’ call to leave everything to follow Him. It’s the transformation of our lives and hearing that call and becoming free from all the things that hold us back. This is a pilgrimage, setting out to a new land.”

According to its website, Magdala is a city situated at the shores of the Galilee along a major commercial trade route, the Via Maris, on the way from Nazareth to Capernaum. It is here that one of seven first-century synagogues in the world was discovered. Archeologists also herald this biblically and historically rich area as the location for the uncovering of “the most significant find in the past 50 years”: the Magdala Stone, also known as the earliest-known artistic depiction of the second temple. And Magdala was also the hometown of Mary Magdalene.

Details on the pilgrimage can be found at magdala.org, and the first tour can be viewed here.
