Christian Teacher Defiantly Resigns in Front of Virginia School Board, Denounces “Highly Politicized Agendas’

A Loudoun County (Virginia) Public Schools teacher, frustrated with the “highly politicized agendas” the school board has been pushing on its students, teachers and parents, defiantly turned in her resignation at a school board meeting Tuesday.

In an emotionally charged speech, fifth grade teacher Laura Morris, who has taught in the Loudon County system for five years and has been a teacher for 10 years in all, told the board that “you no longer value me or many other teachers you employed in this county.”

“Within the last year, I was taught in one of my so-called equity trainings that white, Christian, able-bodied females currently have the power in our schools and ‘this has to change,” Morris said. “Clearly you’ve made your point. … So, since my contract outlines the power that you have over my employment in Loudoun Public County Schools, I thought it necessary to resign in front of you.

“School board, I quit. I quit your policies. I quit your training, and I quit being a cog in a machine that tells me to push highly politicized agendas to our most vulnerable constituents—the children.”

Morris said she has been excited all summer about the prospect of following her fourth grade students to the fifth grade level for 2021-22, but she has agonized about returning to school because of the political agenda of the school board.

“I have struggled about returning to school know that, yet again, I’ll be working with a school division that, despite its shiny tech and flashy salary, promotes political ideologies that do not square with who I am as a believer in Christ.

“I will find employment elsewhere. I will find employment elsewhere. I encourage all the parents and students in this county to flood the private schools.”

Fox News reported that Morris’ comments “touched on a number of simmering controversies within one of the nation’s wealthiest school districts. Most notably, the school district has been embroiled in a longstanding controversy over the use of critical race theory (CRT). While the county has denied teaching the controversial ideology, its officials have acknowledged CRT influences their work.”

Teacher Monica Gill, who spoke at Tuesday’s meeting, previously told Fox News that critical race theory damaged the community by creating division.

She said that teachers were told to “disrupt and dismantle this systemic racism. And I can tell you, one thing that’s for sure, it has been disruptive because there are parents who disagree with this ideology, there are teachers who disagree with it, there are students who disagree with it—and it is harmful.” {eoa}
