This Pro-Abortion Group Has a New Target in Mind

Emily's List Protesters

With the likelihood that Roe v. Wade will eventually be overturned by the Supreme Court growing with each appointment President Donald Trump is expected to make, one pro-abortion organization is turning its focus away from Washington, D.C., for a moment and lining up on a new target:

State legislatures.

Emily’s List, which has the motto “We elect pro-choice Democratic women who will fight for women and families” recently sent a fundraising email to its supporters, which Charisma Caucus has obtained, in which it touts this new focus on state-level politics. The email states:

When Wisconsin enacted its 20-week abortion ban, it passed the state Senate by just five votes.

Arizona’s state Senate passed a bill limiting health insurance coverage for abortion by just five votes. And the Virginia state Senate passed a bill defunding Planned Parenthood by a one-vote margin.

Right now, dozens of states are considering even more anti-choice legislation—and whether these bills become law often comes down to just a handful of votes.

Fortunately, more than 10,000 pro-choice Democratic women have signed up to run for office as part of our Run to Win program. If we can elect even 100 of them in key state legislatures, it could change the lives of millions of women—really and truly.

Our support for state and local candidates can make a big difference, especially when you consider that a lot of local elections are decided by a small number of votes.

And on the local level, every dollar we raise goes further. Consider this: If you spend a little money in just the right spots with the right candidates, you can flip an entire state legislature.

We’ve got the women who want to run. Now we need to build the programs to support them.

Pro-abortion Democrats have taken a beating in state-level races over the past decade. But pro-life conservatives should not become complacent, or assume the current trend will last. It’s incumbent upon Christians to take a leadership role on this and many other important issues. {eoa}
