I just returned from early voting for the Trump/Pence ticket. Days ago, I put their campaign sign on our front lawn. I’m proud to take my stand for the GOP platform and the decency for which it stands.
Like millions of conservative and patriotic Americans, I am tired of the bovine scatology we’re being fed by politicians and cultural influencers seducing our children to believe America can abandon our Judeo-Christian heritage and God’s standards without serious repercussions.
I’m not a prophet, but I believe God uses servants to speak prophetically. “Prophets are the villains of today but the heroes of tomorrow.” I continue to alert people that we must pivot back to God’s Word to avert judgment and experience the desperately needed Third Great Awakening in this land.
One area where this hits home for us with children and grandchildren is that of sexual morality. One political party embraces policies and proponents of homosexuality, abortion, transgenderism, pornography and a “safe-sex” philosophy, promoting it through “progressive” sex-ed school curricula and distribution of free condoms to our youth.
As Christians who take seriously our role as the “salt of the earth,” we must stand unwavering to prevent the decay that comes from licentiousness. Look at what has already happened to countless millions who believe the lie that we can disregard God’s holy commands without paying a price.
CDC Says Sexually Transmitted Diseases Are Surging
According to the most recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, STDs are multiplying and infecting millions of lives across America. The primary ones being impacted are young people between 15 and 24 years of age and homosexuals.
For all the celebratory talk about “safe sex,” same-sex marriage and “sexual freedom,” according to federal data there were more cases of sexually transmitted diseases reported in the United States last year than ever before! Syphilis, human papillomavirus, gonorrhea and chlamydia are exploding! Young people, racial minorities and homosexual men are most at risk (New York Times, Oct. 20, 2016).
In California, gonorrhea cases doubled in five years! In 2011 there were 27,500. In 2015 there were over 54,000!
And for those foolish educators and politicians stating that the solution to this disturbing trend is not to teach moral-centered abstinence but mass condom distribution to our sons and daughters, consider a recent survey of California high school students revealing 43 percent don’t use them!
Remember, most STDs initially have little or no symptoms! Consequences last a lifetime and can include infertility, stillbirth, miscarriage, stroke, blindness and death. As the syphilis rate rose 19 percent nationwide, what about the little babies whose mothers are passing it to them in utero?
And how about the devastating economic toll? The CDC estimates the yearly cost to our U.S. Healthcare System has now reached over $16 billion of yours and my hard-earned tax dollars! In light of our $20 trillion debt, this is insanity!
In the recent CDC report, they admitted sadly that progress in the fight against STDs has literally “unraveled.” Despite free condoms and all the hoopla over H.P.V. vaccines for children 11 to 14 years old, yearly 17,600 women and 9,300 men in the U.S. are devastated by cancers caused by the human papillomavirus!
What will it take to jolt our society back to moral sanity?
All of us who are authentic New Testament Christians need to declare and demonstrate that following biblical standards on sexuality not only prevents shocking consequences like the above but promotes wellness, peace, security and longevity of life.
What can we do to safeguard our children and grandchildren?
3 Guidelines to Guard Offspring
1. Teach without apology God’s standard of chastity before marriage.
Scripture always speaks approvingly of sexual pleasure as long as it’s confined to married partners. God categorically and without exception prohibits premarital and extramarital activity, heterosexual and homosexual.
“You will remember the instructions we gave you in the Name of the Lord Jesus. God’s plan is to make you holy, and that entails first of all a clean-cut with sexual immorality. Every one of you should learn to control his body, keeping it pure and treating it with respect” (1 Thess. 4:2-4, Phillips). I cite this paraphrase because it’s easy for young people to understand as we teach them.
2. Teach God’s plan for single men and women to develop the fruit of self-control (Gal. 5:23) in relating to the opposite sex.
Our permissive culture conveys the idea, “Indulge yourself!” God says the opposite: “Control yourself!” Proverbs 25:28 says, “He who has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls” (MEV).
Fire is warm and wonderful in a fireplace under control, but if that same fire is let loose, it can burn down a house. Likewise, water is refreshing in the tap under control, but that same water rushing through a broken dam on a rampage can devastate an area and destroy human life.

3. Teach that we do not conform to unbiblical standards on sexuality that confront us daily.
Again, the J.B. Phillips Romans 12:1-2 paraphrase makes it easy for youth to grasp: “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold, but let God remold your minds from within, so you may prove in practice that the plan of God for you is good.”
It is a non-negotiable that we carefully monitor the entertainment and friends in our children’s lives. Association brings assimilation so we must always be on guard! “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but a companion of fools will be destroyed” (Prov. 13:20, MEV).
So much of entertainment today is subtlety leading our children away from God. There’s no margin for error here, and we must help them “learn to discern” under our watchful eye.
Much television programming and movies today are out of bounds, requiring us to be creative with selective shows, DVDs and wholesome cable offerings. We must be vigilant and always involved.
Recently a new show called Pitch debuted and seemed at the outset to be family-friendly. Then the show opened with a gratuitous scene of partial nudity with a couple in bed raising the ire of the “Parents Television Council” This is mild compared to the avalanche of filth coming out of Hollywood.
Here’s the deal: People in our society need to see an alternative to what’s being paraded before them and promoted by politicians, pop stars and perverted people in Hollywood. Purity is not a negative principle; it’s keeping sex in the right place, for the right person, at the right time. Remember: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but it’s end is the way of death” (Prov. 14:12).
