Fiasco Is Real: Canada’s Legalized Euthanasia, Organ Harvesting

Canada’s legalization of euthanasia has taken a new turn—an increase in organ harvesting.

Canada has been in the spotlight for its medical assistance in dying (MAID) program, including the possibility of allowing minors to decide if they want to end their lives. But the mounting issues with this law originally intended for terminally ill patients are only beginning.

According to CBN News, Canada is now the world leader for harvesting organs.

Not only is organ harvesting spiking in Canada, but as of March 17 of this year, those who struggle with mental illness will also be able to seek out attention from MAID.

“After March 17, 2023, people with a mental illness as their sole underlying medical condition will have access to MAID if they meet all of the eligibility requirements and the practitioners fulfill the safeguards that are put in place for this group of people,” the MAID program states.

What kinds of requirements and “safeguards” go into providing medically induced suicide for those with mental illness? According to the MAID program, if a person is eligible to receive government health care, have a medical situation that either cannot be reversed or brings suffering, and requests and gives consent, then a person with a mental illness will qualify to end their life.

These horrific programs in which the government promotes death over life unfortunately exist not only in Canada, but around the world.

China has also been known for organ harvesting, and the evidence has pointed to forced organ donation on groups like the Uyghur Muslims who have been imprisoned by the Chinese government in camps for their religious faith.

“Since 2015, Chinese authorities have claimed to only source organs from voluntary donors, but there are doubts as to the veracity of the claim,” the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission writes. “Data suggest that Chinese hospitals have performed many times more transplants than the highest estimates of ethically available donors can account for.”

While actions like this seem radical and impossible ever to come to America, we need to be on the watch. Isaiah 5:20 (MEV) warns us: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who exchange darkness for light, and light for darkness; who exchange bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Jesus also warns in Matthew 7:13-14 (MEV): “Enter at the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who are going through it, because small is the gate and narrow is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Calling suicide caring or loving is far from either, rather it is promoting darkness instead of light. Harvesting humans for body parts devalues people as mere commodities rather than beings created in the image of God. Compassion is not telling people that death is their only option when life has been given and offered to all through Jesus. Following Him is the only way we can enter into true life and freedom, and all other options will lead to the path of destruction.
