Engaging Heaven Church in New London, Connecticut experienced a devastating blow after the historic church collapsed on Thursday.

As NBC Connecticut reported, the steeple of the 200-year-old church collapsed. When the collapse happened, a woman was inside the structure. However, she was able to safely escape the building. There was no one else inside at the time.

Engaging Heaven Church was built in 1810, and is considered to be “one of the most gorgeous religious structures in the city,” according to New London mayor Michael Passero.

On X, worship leader Sean Feucht shared his prayers and sentiment for the great loss of this historic building.

“Pray for my friends in New London, CT!” Feucht wrote. “Their beautiful historic church (Engaging Heaven Ministries) just collapsed. I’ve ministered there many times over the last decade! Many preachers from the Great Awakening and Revivals past have held significant meetings there!”

Engaging Heaven Church reposted on Facebook from Bob Nicolls which stated, “I don’t know where we will be on Sunday. We are working on it. I’ll tell you this…We are going to worship God like we never have before!”

The encouraging post went on to read: “I don’t care if we worship in a church or in the street! The church has left the building! We are stepping into the greatest hour we have ever seen! NOW is the time!”
