The Gospel Reason Why I Went Into Politics

As a young mom shuttling my boys to their Christian school, my journey into politics unexpectedly began. After leaving my mission field plans aside, I married Tim, and together we grew Bluebonnet Pest Control from 1996 to 2001. We eventually sold the business, dabbled in the restaurant industry with our rolled sandwich business, Roly Poly, and later found ourselves grappling with the question of what to do next.

During my time managing a Roly Poly restaurant in Dallas, I stumbled upon talk radio host Laura Ingraham, whose insights intrigued me. Listening to her daily, I realized the nation was in trouble. This realization prompted me to explore biblical passages, leading to a shift in my thinking about ministry beyond church walls. I questioned whether apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers were solely confined to church roles.

Ephesians 4:11-12 emphasizes that these gifts are for the equipping of saints for ministry, challenging my perspective on where ministry occurred. When I read Matthew 5:13-16, I saw the call to be salt and light in the world and recognized the need to make a difference, disciple nations, and embody Jesus’ love, character and values.

This paradigm shift freed me from narrow thinking about ministry, prompting a realization that the work of ministry extended beyond the church walls. Politics, often seen as a godly struggle, is a necessary process for certain people to achieve their goals within the government. In fact, the church’s silence in the face of issues like redefining marriage and legalized abortion constitutes disobedience.

It is our role as ambassadors for Christ to speak out. The church must not neglect its duty to share the story of Jesus. America’s strength lies in the transformed lives of its people, grounded in God’s Word.

America’s greatness rests on the transformation of individuals through the story of Jesus. If we desire personal revival, healing, and grounding in God’s Word, then it is only Jesus who can save and change lives. Failure to share Jesus is like withholding the greatest instrument for change in our nation. {eoa}
