Outrage Over Bible Verse Post Costs Christian Actress $350K

A Christian actress is feeling the heat for her faith after posting a Bible verse about the truth of homosexuality.

After going to The Employment Appeal Tribunal for religious discrimination and dealing with a legal battle for five years, Seyi Omooba lost her case and must now cover costs greater than $350,000.

As the Christian Post reported, back in 2014 Omooba posted 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. In verses 9-10, the apostle Paul is very clear about who will not inherit the kingdom of God:

“Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

While this section of Scripture covers a variety of people who will not see the kingdom of heaven, it is in particular those who fall into homosexuality that Omooba’s post referenced.

“I do not believe you can be born gay, and I do not believe homosexuality is right, though the law of this land has made it legal doesn’t mean it’s right,” Oomba’s post read.

It is this Christian belief that caused Omooba to lose her role from the stage production of “The Color Purple.” Omooba was to play Celie, which the stage production decided to heavily focus on as a lesbian.

Omooba did not desire to play a character associated with the LGBTQ community, and did not have prior understanding that she had just been cast as a character whose lesbianism would be a major part of the role. While she knew the film version of the character, she did not quite expect this part of the role to be so heavily emphasized in the stage production. Omooba had previously turned down the chance to play in the Book of Mormon because of how it targeted people of faith.

After being cast for this role, Aaron Lee Lambert, who is best known for his affiliation with “Hamilton,” questioned Omooba’s thoughts on homosexuality.

“Do you still stand by this post? Or are you happy to remain a hypocrite? Seeing as you’ve now been announced to be playing an LGBTQ character, I think you owe your LGBTQ peers an explanation. Immediately.”

Omooba’s contract was then canceled after she refused to retract her statement about homosexuality.

Omooba says she believes God’s love is for all people, but that she still stands by the biblical understanding of sexuality.

“I just quoted what the Bible says about homosexuality, the need for repentance, but ultimately God’s love for all humanity. I stand by what I wrote, but had I known that it would have come to this, I would have set my account to the privacy mode,” Omooba says. {eoa}
