This may not come as any surprise to you, but now it’s official: President Obama is the absolute worst president since World War II.

That, at least, is according to 33 percent of American voters surveyed in a Quinnipiac University National Poll released on Wednesday. Of course, President George W. Bush doesn’t fare much better, collecting 28 percent of the votes for worst president in decades.

“Over the span of 69 years of American history and 12 presidencies, President Barack Obama finds himself with President George W. Bush at the bottom of the popularity barrel,” says Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

When you narrow the field to just Bush and Obama, it’s a fairly close call. Thirty-nine percent of the voters in the poll said Obama has been a better president than George W. Bush, while 40 percent say he is worse.

Meanwhile, men say 43 to 36 percent that Obama is worse than Bush while women say 42 to 38 percent he is better. Seventy-nine percent of Republicans say Obama is worse. Seventy-eight percent of Democrats say he is better. Independent voters are more evenly spread at 41 to 31 percent.

Would America be better off if Republican Mitt Romney had won the 2012 presidential election? Forty-five percent of voters say yes. But 38 percent say the country would be even worse off than it is, which is hard to believe.

In other stats, 54 percent American voters say the Obama administration is not competent running the government and 48 percent say he doesn’t pay enough attention to what his administration is doing.

In terms of perceptions of honesty and trustworthiness, voters are split. Overall, voters have a negative view of how Obama is handling the economy, foreign policy, healthcare, the environment and terrorist threats.

So who’s the best president since World War II? Thirty-five percent of voters in the poll named Ronald Reagan. Another 18 percent chose Bill Clinton, while 15 percent for John F. Kennedy and 8 percent for Obama.
