GOP Congress Could Expose Truth in Obama Administration Scandals

The results of Tuesday’s midterm election create an important opportunity to get to the bottom of numerous Obama Administration scandals: a corrupt IRS that unlawfully targeted conservative groups; what really happened when militant Islamists murdered four Americans—including our Ambassador—at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi; as well as the botched U.S. gun-running operation, Fast & Furious, which resulted in the death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

“The U.S. House of Representatives has carried the congressional load when it came to investigating these critical matters,” said Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of the American Center for Law & Justice.

“Now with a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate, we welcome the full engagement by the Senate—finally an opportunity to remove Senator [Harry] Reid’s roadblock, clearing the way for serious hearings and investigations into scandals that must be addressed. The American people deserve answers and now with the Senate involved, it will be even more difficult for the Obama Administration to continue its policy of dodging, deceiving and delaying. We look forward to aggressive investigation in the U.S. Senate on these most critical issues.”

On election eve, the Department of Justice released more than 64,000 documents—material that had been withheld from Congress by President Obama, who claimed executive privilege in keeping the documents out of the hands of Congress. The release came only after a federal court decision, and House Republicans questioned the timing of the document dump—on the eve of the election.

At the same time, there are reports that attorneys for the IRS have told a federal court that they have not searched various other sources, including back-up tapes or computer servers, for the missing emails of former top agency official Lois Lerner, claiming that doing so would be fruitless.

Sekulow added: “Even as voters soundly rejected President Obama’s policies, we have numerous examples of an administration that remains arrogant and committed to doing all that it can to keep the truth from the American people—whether it’s the IRS or Fast & Furious.

“That is why the outcome of this election is so important. We’re confident the U.S. Senate will launch significant probes into what only can be described as a systematic program of deceit and deception.”
