What Spirit-Filled Fathers Need to Tell Their Daughters

Share:

These were written at a time in my life when my daughter was about to take the biggest journey of her life in becoming a young woman of God. High school was over, and now she was walking onto a much bigger campus with many more people. There was one thing she would need on this journey: a father’s wisdom.

Whatever your situation may be, the letters I wrote for my daughter during her freshman year of college will echo a father’s love for his little girl. Not only did these letters touch her heart, but the hearts of her friends as well.

With my daughter’s permission, I am sharing with you a few samples from these letters so that you can be encouraged as well.

My Daughter,

You are an amazing, beautiful and godly woman. I am really proud of you! I was thinking about your awesome car, and it brought to mind something we have never discussed (as far as I can remember.)

Every season of life requires that we save money for the next season. During adolescence, you saved for a car or college. In your 20s, you save for a wedding. In early marriage, you save for a house and children. Then you save for college for your children and retirement. You then become a blessing when you leave planet Earth.

You intuitively understand saving allows you possibilities and privileges in the future; that’s wisdom. When looking at potential husbands look at how they prepare for seasons. See if they prepared for their past seasons with wisdom. Then look at how they prepare for their future seasons because you will be in their future seasons.

So always enjoy the season you’re in, but save money regularly to be able to enjoy your future seasons as well. You have seen Mom and me live this way, and you have benefited, so I’m really proud of you starting your life so intently.

Love you much,

Dad

My Daughter,

I hope you realize you are in a great day leading to many other great days. Like I have said before, your life is like a movie, not a photograph.

In this movie, God speaks in various ways: through dreams, unique situations, family members, friends, authorities and even the Word of God itself. I don’t know if you ever took the time to journal about what God has said to you.

I remember having dreams of helping people way before I accepted Jesus as my savior. I remember several spiritual encounters as well as unique situations that confirmed a direction or stopped me from a direction.

How about you? What are some of the dreams God has given you when you were a little girl or teenager? What has God spoken to you through others? What are some life-shaping events that God has walked with you through?

His voice is throughout your movie. I think it would be great if you take a few minutes and write out what you have heard so far. I love you and I look forward to His dreams coming true for your life.

Love you much,

Dad

I hope you enjoyed me sharing with you my father’s heart. If you have a daughter starting college, I encourage you to take this time to speak truth and wisdom into her life. I have put these letters in a book form called Letters to My Daughter as a tool to bless you, cause you to think, make wise decisions and help your daughter become who God created her to be!
