In spite of a dedication message clearly outlining the message of the Lord Jesus Christ, His birthday being celebrated with the symbolic Capitol Christmas tree and a quoting of Scripture by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, in a shocking attack on Christians and the important holiday, the National Park Service prohibited any religious symbols, references or information on the very reason for the day itself. But one man took it up on himself to stand up for First Amendment rights and for the true meaning of Christmas.
Rev. Patrick Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition repeatedly contacted the architect of the Capitol, the Capitol Police, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Forest Service, but other than the website announcement, was not able to get any response.
Fearing for the very religious freedom that so many fight for worldwide, on Christmas Eve, Mahoney defied the “law” and brought a manger scene complete with baby Jesus, Joseph and Mary and placed it at the foot of the Capitol Christmas tree, which on closer examination has ornaments ranging from gorillas to all manner of environmental and otherwise symbolic ornaments, but not one referencing Christmas itself.
In front of the illegal manger scene, Mahoney let a group of fellow believers in rededicating the Capitol Christmas tree to the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ with an opening prayer and a livestreamed message on the meaning of Christmas.
“The ‘People’s House,’ as the U.S. Capitol Building is so rightly called, must be a place where all Americans should be afforded the right to come and peacefully celebrate and express their First Amendment rights,” Mahoney said.
As the message began and Christmas carols rang out, the crowd grew, with regular visitors clapping in joy following the carols while the Capitol Police circled menacingly closer and closer to the display of illegal activity in an overt threat to the very celebration of Christmas on Christmas Eve.
“Since the definition of Christmas is, ‘the annual festival celebrating Christ’s birth,’ it should be of deep concern that ornaments depicting His birth are prohibited and censored from being on the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree by the order of a government agency,” Mahoney said.
“It is hard to comprehend decorations of ‘Bigfoot’ are being displayed on the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree, but ornaments of the baby Jesus and the nativity are being prohibited.”
In contrast, to the refusal to say “Christmas” or refer to the very reason for the Christmas season on media from CNN to other channels, Al-Jazeera, the Qatar-based Muhammaden news channel, ran nonstop programming celebrating the manger scene in Bethlehem, church services worldwide. In a display a few years ago in Baghdad, the government painted a huge, multistory picture of Jesus on the side of a major downtown building and rand nonstop live church services in the predominantly Muhammaden country.
“When the Muhammadens celebrate our Christmas with more respect and love for Christ than we do, it is time to stand up,” said one passerby, informed of the story.
Sadly, the “Christian swamp,” much of it headquartered in the Washington, D.C., area, failed to turn up to support Mahoney and his efforts—afraid to stand up, happy to go along with the flow and becoming more and more irrelevant to the many who have found Christ and have fallen in love with HIs love, His salvation and His special gift, most exemplified at Christmas. {eoa}
