Intimacy With the Holy Spirit

Do you feel the desire to be more intimate with God? An overwhelming majority of believers have that desire, yet feel they’ve fallen short of that goal. Here’s one of the reasons why: “Holy Spirit, we invite You to come and enter our service.” We hear this a lot in any corporate worship service. There is nothing wrong with saying that. The problem is that as we’re walking out of the building, we continue in that line of thought. We are waiting for the Holy Spirit to come down from heaven and never truly seeing the intimacy of Him being in us and with us.

Nearly every Christian will state that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit and that He’s in us. How many of us have taken the time to cultivate that knowledge into an intimate relationship? During your personal prayer time, do you look up at the ceiling and talk to God as if He is miles away up in the heavens? How about speaking loudly so you know that your voice reaches up to the heavens? That exact thought may not be there but when you pray, is your voice louder than when you’re talking to your wife? That’s because subconsciously we’re viewing the Holy Spirit as being far away and that is an indication that there is a lack of intimacy on our part!

We have now defined the problem and have pinpointed the need, which is developing a closer intimacy with the Holy Spirit. Our imagination is one tool that will help us develop a closer bond between ourselves and the Holy Spirit. A bond so close that when we hear someone say, “Come, Holy Spirit, we invite You in,” your spirit screams He’s already here, He’s in me! When we use our imagination to picture Holy Spirit in us, then that will become our instinctive reaction. In the episode Intimacy with the Holy Spirit, I give a description of the imagery I use during my intimate time with the Holy Spirit. Listen to this episode, and learn how fire and water have become key factors in my intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit and how you too can use your imagination during your intimate time with Him. {eoa}
