How Prophetic Intercessors Are Impacting the Presidential Election

I’m sure it grieves the Lord to see the increased division within the body of Christ concerning this election. There are many interpretations of what is happening based on what we see and hear in the media. Even seasoned leaders are questioning who they believe and where they stand. In order to cut through the confusion, we must invite the Holy Spirit to show Himself strong and to demonstrate God’s presence and power in such a way that defies man’s logic or human reasoning.

I would hope that all “Spirit-filled” believers could unite in this regard—to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s favor and pleasure in such a way that it is evident to all where God is working—and who He’s working through. A person can be motivated by the Holy Spirit (Is. 11:2-4), an evil Spirit (Acts 5:1-11), or their human spirit (Acts 8:18-24). Even through flawed and sinful people, God’s presence can be discerned if we are open to see it. A person may have a sordid past, but if their hearts are motivated by the Holy Spirit, God can do miracles of transformation.

If we truly believe in the power of prayer, how have we been doing so far? Since Donald Trump first came on the scene, many intercessors have been praying that this man’s heart would be changed; that he would bring godly advisors around him; that he would stand by biblical values; that he would demonstrate a willingness to change. It would seem that all of those things are happening in various degrees. Regardless of past mistakes and even current blunders, I believe we are seeing someone who is trying to listen and is in the process of being transformed. For those who preach, “Your past does not define you,” perhaps Trump is being personally tested in this powerful principle.

Intercessors have also been praying for Hillary that she would experience and demonstrate the realities of living for Christ through her policies and vision for this nation. Perhaps that can still happen. We have been praying that ungodliness and corruption would be exposed. It has been—in all parties! Even so, exposure is only the first step. It is the response to those revelations that can determine where God’s favor rests. As our prayers are being answered, we must go beyond our own interpretations and understandings and invite God to do what we can’t. We will never convince each other of what is right or who to vote for. We must each hear from the Holy Spirit as well as learn to recognize His working and dealings with people.

The Scripture that is being highlighted in this regard is 1 Corinthians 2:4, where Paul says, “My speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.” This is a unified prayer that we can all pray—that the message and “preaching” of God’s purposes for this nation would not rest in persuasive words of wisdom, but in a demonstration of the Spirit and of power.

As we have been praying for “transforming revival,” could it be that God is already answering our prayers? Doesn’t He always start with an individual in order to demonstrate the potential within each of us to be utterly and radically transformed? Regardless of your views or present interpretation of any candidate, can we as the body of Christ unite in asking the Holy Spirit to come with demonstrations of His power that would override human initiative? Can we pray that His presence would so permeate the campaigns that the fear of the Lord would descend upon even the most heathen among them?

Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the cause of Christ’s kingdom in this election and show everyone where God is moving and working. Let’s agree to invite Him to be the Defender of our faith and show the world that it is God alone who “changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who know understanding (Dan. 2:21). {eoa}
