Could Oprah VP Pick Push Trump Over the Presidential Edge?

I don’t usually write about politics, but “the Donald’s” splash onto the political scene this week has turned even my head. And his would-be pick for vice president has more people talking than his strong remarks against China, Mexico and his fellow 2016 presidential candidates.

There’s definitely a lot of Trump hating going on. Even rocker Neil Young is up in arms over Trump using his song “Rockin’ in the Free World” as part of his campaign launch.

“Donald Trump was not authorized to use ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement,” Young, 69, said in an official statement to People Magazine, adding that “Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for president of the United States of America.”

But could Oprah Winfrey put him over the top? Would she dare? He’s been thinking about the possibility since 1999 when he first threatened to run for president.

“I like Oprah,” Trump, 69, told ABC News‘ George Stephanopoulos. “I think Oprah would be great. I’d love to have Oprah. I think we’d win easily, actually.”

The Washington Post disagrees and has listed 8 people who would make a better running mate than the controversial TV star. WashPo picked Jesse Ventura, Chuck Norris, The Rock, Kim Kardashian, Clint Eastwood, Kid Rock, Stephen Colbert and Ted Nugent.

But Trump is stuck on Oprah.

“She’s great, she’s talented, she’s a friend of mine,” he said. “She’s a good person. I’ve been on her show. In fact, I was on her show her last week, she said, “Could I be on her show with the whole family? … I like Oprah. I mean, is that supposed to be a bad thing? I don’t think so.”

Way back when, Oprah said she had no interest in politics. But she has yet to speak out on the possibility of being Trump’s trump card.

This is making headlines all over the world, which is what Trump intended for it to do. What better way to get attention than to come out with guns blazing and pull out a veep consideration that gets the nation talking?
