In recent days, a controversial display has been erected in the Iowa state capitol by The Satanic Temple Iowa. This display, which features a silver ram’s head on a red-caped mannequin, has sparked significant debate among politicians and citizens alike. Republican Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds expressed her disapproval of the display, calling it “absolutely objectionable.”

The display is scheduled to remain up for two weeks, and its presence has prompted discussion about the limits of free speech and religious expression on government property. Iowa state Rep. Jon Dunwell, a Republican and Christian pastor, shared his thoughts on the matter, stating that while he personally finds the altar “objectionable” and “classified as evil,” he believes it is not the government’s place to arbitrate religion.

On the other hand, Iowa state Rep. Brad Sherman, another Republican and pastor, argued that the display violates the 1857 Iowa Constitution, which set the state apart to God and invoked His blessing. He urged Gov. Reynolds to have the statue removed from the capitol and called for legislation banning satanic displays from government property altogether.

In response to the controversy, Gov. Reynolds encouraged citizens to engage in spiritual warfare, stating, “In a free society, the best response to objectionable speech is more speech, and I encourage all those of faith to join me today in praying over the capitol and recognizing the nativity scene that will be on display—the true reason for the season.”

For Christians, it is vital to stand against the forces that seek to destroy America from within. The Bible provides guidance on how to engage in spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:12 states, “For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

There are several ways that Christians can engage in spiritual warfare and have an impact on society:

Prayer: Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have to combat evil. Pray for the protection of our nation and its leaders, and for the hearts of those who seek to spread darkness to be transformed by the light of Christ.

Education: Educate yourself and others on the importance of religious freedom and the role of faith in our society. Engage in respectful dialogue with those who hold different beliefs, and use your knowledge to make informed decisions as a citizen.

Civic engagement: Get involved in your local community and government. Attend city council meetings, join local organizations and vote in elections to ensure that your voice is heard and that the values you hold dear are represented in the decision-making process.

Support organizations that promote Christian values: There are numerous organizations that work to promote and protect religious freedom and Christian values in our society. Consider supporting these groups financially or by volunteering your time.

Live out your faith: Finally, remember that the most powerful witness to the love of Christ is the way you live your life. Treat others with kindness and compassion, and let your actions speak louder than your words.

As we engage in spiritual warfare, let us remember the words of Ephesians 6:11: “Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Together, we can stand against the forces that seek to destroy our nation from within, and in doing so, preserve the godly values that make America great.{eoa}
