Dr. Tony Evans’ wife, Lois, died early this morning, Dec. 30, surrounded by family and loved ones.

“Just before the sun came up this morning, the love of my life, Lois Irene Evans, transitioned from earth and watched her first sunrise from heaven,” her husband posted on Instagram. “I had the privilege of holding her hand as she was lulled into eternity.”

He thanked all who prayed for his wife this year while she faced her battles with cancer.

“God answered our prayers this morning by relieving her of suffering. But the truth is, He has been answering our prayers all along. Lois lived beyond medical expectations, not once, but over and over again. God has been so kind to give us more time to make wonderful memories.”

Just before the sun came up this morning, the love of my life, Lois Irene Evans, transitioned from earth and watched her first sunrise from heaven. I had the privilege of holding her hand as she was lulled into eternity. Our four children surrounded her as well. As she slipped away, we told her how much we love her, how proud we are of her, and how thankful we are for the life she has lived. We are what we are because of her. Thank you so much for praying for my wife and for my family. God answered our prayers this morning by relieving her of suffering. But the truth is, He has been answering our prayers all along. Lois lived beyond medical expectations, not once, but over and over again. God has been so kind to give us more time to make wonderful memories. While we know the coming days will be challenging, right now we are grateful for the life and love of a woman who planted seeds that will bear fruit for generations to come. Thank you for your continued prayers for our family as we grieve, and also for your patience as we finalize our plans to honor her life.

The Evanses’ daughter, popular Bible teacher and War Room actress Priscilla Shirer, shared her father’s Instagram post, adding: “Goodnight my beautiful, beloved Mommy. I’ll see you in the morning.”

In October, Dr. Evans asked for urgent prayer for Lois as she battled a “fiery trial” with biliary cancer. At that point, chemotherapy and radiation were no longer options, Dr. Evans said. Instead, Lois continued treatment with natural therapies, supplemental treatments and was “surrounded 24/7 with the love of her nuclear and extended family as well as the support of our church and national ministry.”

Lois was not only the wife of a prominent pastor, but was also an accomplished businesswoman, speaker, author and singer with two recorded albums in the 1980s. She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration at Dallas Baptist University and earned a Doctorate of Humane Letters from Eastern College.

At one time, Lois worked for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and later on became senior vice president of the Christian broadcast and ministry The Urban Alternative. She also served as president of the Global Wives’ network and founded the First Lady Conference and the Pastors’ Wives Ministry.

Her written works were published in several magazines and she contributed as a writer for several books, including Promises Promises, Understanding and Encouraging Your Husband, Our Love Is Here to Stay and Stones of Remembrance: A Rock-Hard Faith for Rock-Hard Places. In 2013, she wrote Seasons of a Woman’s Life.

In his post about his wife’s death, Dr. Evans asked for continued prayers as his family grieves their loss and finalizes plans to honor Lois’ life.

Lois leaves behind four children, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
