Ravi Zacharias is suffering from severe pain after an emergency spinal surgery, his wife, Margie, says.

Margie posted on Ravi’s Instagram account to ask the Christian apologist’s followers for prayer for her husband. His surgery was successful, but Margie says the recovery process is going much slower than anticipated.

“Ravi is progressing in his healing, but at a much slower pace than he had expected based on his past experience (perhaps since he is 18 years older now than when he had his previous back surgery, the healing takes more time),” Margie wrote. “His pain continues to be severe, especially during the night, which makes the nights very long and difficult. We are thankful that Ravi has the expertise of two pain management doctors, including his brother Ramesh, but even so it is a little bit of trial and error.

“Please keep praying for Ravi, especially his nights. This is a challenging time, and there is still a long way to go before he will be able to pick up his itinerary.

“Thank you again for your love and caring for Ravi and our family. Your prayers and encouragement mean the world to us.”

Ravi underwent emergency surgery Feb. 20 due to back issues he says he has had for several years. He has had two surgeries prior to this one, but they didn’t solve the problem.

The surgery Thursday was to remove two of the screws that were loose and anchor his fractured sacrum in two places to the pelvis. Doctors were confident of the success of the surgery, which will reportedly keep him from traveling for up to eight weeks.
