Pentecostal Church Vandalized With Satanic Graffiti After Protesting Drag Queen Storytime

A Pentecostal church was vandalized with Satanic graffiti and vulgar phrases on Sunday, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

Two suspects were seen in a surveillance video spray painting the word “Lucifer,” a pentagram and other crude phrases on the church’s wall, according to KPBS.

South Bay Pentecostal Church in Chula Vista, California, recently opposed a Drag Queen Storytime event at a library in South Bay scheduled for Tuesday. During this event, drag queens will read books to the community’s children.

“We’ve stood up the last several weeks to share our concern regarding the upcoming drag queen story hour,” South Bay Pentecostal Church Executive Pastor Amado Huizar says. “We feel that, maybe, perhaps, these two are connected.”

The South Bay Alliance, the organization helping to host Drag Queen Storytime, says that if the graffiti is a response to the church’s opposition to their event, it is “extremely inappropriate.”

“It has no place in any political dialogue,” the South Bay Alliance says in a statement. “I sincerely hope it was not in response to their position on the storytime, but if it was, it is extremely inappropriate.”

Police are investigating the vandalism as a possible hate crime but tell NBC 7 that they see no direct connection between the graffiti and the church’s protests.

The aforementioned surveillance video reveals two suspects driving up to the church in a sedan around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, reports The San Diego Union-Tribune. The two individuals got out of their car and walked to the back of the church to vandalize the wall.

As of this writing, police do not have a description for the two suspects.
