Megachurch Pastor John Gray Hospitalized With Life-Threatening Pulmonary Embolism

South Carolina Pastor John Gray of Relentless Church in Greenville, South Carolina, has been hospitalized since Thursday evening for a life-threatening saddle pulmonary embolism, per an Instagram post from Gray’s wife and co-pastor, Aventer Gray. The Grays moved to Greenville in 2018 to former Pastor Ron Carpenter’s Redemption Church (now Relentless Church) after serving under Joel Osteen at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas.

“My family and I stand in need of a miracle,” Gray wrote on Instagram, adding that “The Saddle PE is in a position that could potential[ly] end his life if it shifts at all.”

A saddle pulmonary embolism, per the National Library of Medicine, is “a rare type of acute pulmonary embolism (PE) that can lead to sudden hemodynamic collapse and death. The definition of SPE is a visible thrombus located at the bifurcation of the main pulmonary artery, and a diagnosis of SPE suggests the possibility of hemodynamic instability.”

An outpouring of prayers and support have flowed forth for Gray and his family beginning with Relentless Church itself, which posted on its social media channels that the church of some 15,000 members is “trusting and believing God for a miracle! A miracle that provides complete healing & restoration!”

“God isn’t done! I don’t care what CT, ECHO, all, or any of the tests show,” Aventer Gray said in her post. “It’s clear God isn’t finished. Clots have to bow to my God!”
