‘Make America Great and Glorious Again’: Trump Announces Third Presidential Bid

After months of speculation, the “big announcement” was what many were expecting: Donald Trump announced his intention to run for president in 2024.

The former president addressed an enthusiastic crowd from his Mar-A-Lago estate in Florida, and finally answered the question on everyone’s minds since Joe Biden took over as president.

“My fellow citizens, America’s comeback starts right now,” Trump told the cheering crowd. “In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.”

In a change of direction from previous weeks, Trump did not call out fellow Republicans and instead focused on the failures of the Biden administration, notably the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan that cost American lives.

“Perhaps the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country,” Trump said. “We lost lives, left Americans behind and surrendered $85 billion of the finest military equipment anywhere in the world.

“Unlike Biden possibly getting us into World War III, which can seriously happen,” Trump continued, “I will keep America out of foolish and unnecessary foreign wars.”

Throughout the speech, Trump focused on rectifying the mistakes that has hindered the American economy and stifled freedoms of its citizens.

“I am running because I believe the world has not yet seen the true glory of what this nation can be,” Trump said.

“We will heal our divisions and bring our people back together through incredible success,” he continued. “We will shatter the forces of tyranny, and we will unleash the glories of liberty for ourselves and for our children, and for generations yet to come. America’s golden age is just ahead.”

Several new political points were introduced in his speech, including term limits for members of congress and same-day voting with paper ballots only.

While Trump has long been considered the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination, recent polls have shown Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis being a potential rival. Other names who have expressed interest in running include Mike Pence and Mike Pompeo, yet their polling numbers trail Trump and DeSantis by extreme margins.

Should the former president be successful in his venture for office in 2024, he will be just the second president in history to reclaim the White House after being defeated as the incumbent. President Grover Cleveland first accomplished this task in 1892. {eoa}
