Christian singer Sandi Patty announced Tuesday night, March 17, that she tested positive for COVID-19.
The 63-year-old singer shared a video on Facebook, saying that she was impressed with how the Oklahoma Health Department handled her case.
“So yesterday, I was tested for COVID-19,” she says in the video. “And today, I got a call from the Oklahoma Health Department and I have confirmed, yes, I have COVID-19. … I hadn’t felt well for a couple of weeks. So I’ve been traveling, so when I got off the road March 7 and 8, I came back to Oklahoma City and really have been home since then.”
As a result, Patty says she and her husband, Don, have decided to quarantine themselves. Patty said she was grateful that, since returning from her travels, she has not been around people, including her local church, Crossings Community Church, where she serves throughout the week.
She encouraged people to take the coronavirus seriously.
“Here’s what I want to say to people: ‘This is not fake news,'” she says. “This is real. This is everything that they say that it is. And we’ve just got to take it seriously. I’m really, really thankful that [my husband] Don and I are taking it seriously, first of all, for ourselves. And when we make the right choice to quarantine ourselves, not only are we protecting ourselves and thinking about ourselves; it’s the right decision for everybody else too.
“… Do your part. That’s all we can do. (God) has given us faith, but He has also given us wisdom. So use that wisdom.”
