Annie is back in theaters. The film is the latest twist of the “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip, which has already been two films and a Broadway show.

There are three Hollywood heavyweights behind this film: actor Will Smith, rapper Jay Z, and preacher and film executive DeVon Franklin.

Franklin is the same preacher and movie executive who helped to green-light Heaven is for Real earlier this year.

Franklin spoke with CBN News just days before Annie‘s opening day to talk about the inspiration behind the film, which surpassed box office expectations in its opening weekend with a $16.3 million debut.

Franklin is a champion of inspirational entertainment and recently started his own production company, Franklin Entertainment, to bring more inspiring works to the big and small screens.

This is latest installment of the classic starring, Academy-Award winning actor Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhané Wallis, who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild in 2012. She is the youngest nominee in history.
