Charisma News Brief: American Nurse and Daughter Kidnapped in Haiti Freed

Share:

Christian American nurse Alix Dorsainvil and her daughter have been released following their kidnapping 13 days ago from their community ministry, El Roi Haiti, the ministry announced Wednesday.

Chaos has beset the island nation in recent months, and the kidnapping of Dorsainvil and her daughter became typical of the anarchy and gang violence that has occurred there.

El Roi Haiti released a statement Wednesday about the safety of Dorsainvil and her daughter.

“It is with a heart of gratitude and immense joy that we at El Roi Haiti confirm the release of our staff member and friend, Alix Dorsainvil and her child who were held hostage in Port au Prince, Haiti. Today we are praising God for answered prayer,” the statement said.

Dorsainvil and her daughter were taken by unidentified gunmen on July 27 outside the makeshift clinic near Port-Au-Prince, where she works for El Roi. No information has been released about the kidnappers or where they were detained, or if the perpetrators received a ransom

Media outlets reported that U.S. State Department spokesman Matt Miller told reporters, “We express our deepest appreciation to our Haitian and U.S. interagency partners for their assistance in facilitating their safe release, and out of respect for their privacy, we’ll let the individuals speak for themselves when ready.”

The same day Dorsainvil and her daughter were kidnapped, the U.S. State Department ordered the departure of nonemergency government personnel from Haiti as the security situation in the country continues to deteriorate. {eoa}
