Why the House of Jesse Means Everything for Christianity

Hidden in the story of King David is the evolution of sin. It’s not easily seen, but it is hinted, that King David could be (not that he is) possibly conceived as the result of Jesse having an illicit affair.

I know that’s hard to believe but many theologians do believe and teach this based on this verse below:

“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me” (Ps. 51:5, KJV).

What I am about to share is not absolute, but it’s believed by many theologians and possibly suggested in Scripture. This segment is presented as mere speculation, but highly probable, and helps convey the point I’m trying to make in this segment.

It’s believed that a lot of David’s pessimism was the result of this secret that his father Jesse was hiding, which is why when Samuel asked to see all of his sons, David wasn’t included until the prophet insisted that there had to be another son.

Revelation 1:16: “I, Jesus, have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the Bright and Morning Star.”

I’ve always been intrigued about the verse above because if you look closely, Jesus exclaims that he is the root of David. Why would He say root when all other Scriptures about Him are in reference to Him being the son of David. The real root of David was actually Jesse his father, yet Jesus substitutes his father and places Himself instead. The book of Isaiah 11:1-2 states the out of Jesse root there’s a branch that’s coming (which is Christ).

“And there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots” (Isa. 11:1-2).

Now why is this important and what does it have to do with the evolution of generational curses or with King David’s bloodline? What potentially started out as someone’s unresolved sin can grow with each generation. If Jesse’s struggle in one moment with lust led to having a child out of wedlock and covering up his secret sin, we find David also struggling through his life with various moments of lust.

From having multiple wives, then trying to cover up his sin with Bathsheba, that by the time Solomon was on the scene, we find him having over 700 wives and concubines. Sin can evolve, generational curses can evolve. The biblical term “iniquity” means sin and transgression carried out over many years with no intervention where it has not become deeply entrenched in the nature of the person and they embody the sin that they’ve ben committing.

What you fail to do with in one generation will grow in the next!

Pagani book coverJesus identified Himself with the root of David’s bloodline. This is worth lifting your hands and rejoicing, because of what Jesus did on the cross, and through His blood, He also identifies your bloodline and breaks the curse.

It doesn’t matter how sinful your household and bloodline are, Jesus came to break the curse. This is why in the book of Acts 16:31 it says “be ye saved, you and your household.” {eoa}
