Why the Abortion Industry’s Façade Continues to Crumble

Throughout Scripture we find promises that evil deeds committed in secret will be exposed to the light—and we are cautioned not only to have nothing to do with evil deeds, but to expose them. This year, more and more employees of Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other abortion providers have spoken out against the toxic and racist work environments they experienced while working in the abortion industry.

Earlier this year, I told you that roughly 300 past and present employees of Planned Parenthood signed onto a letter accusing the CEO of the largest Planned Parenthood affiliate of being “a toxic leader and autocrat.” The employees also pointed out the racist and eugenic background of Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, and claimed that Planned Parenthood still had “issues of systemic racism, pay inequity and lack of upward mobility for Black staff.”

Then, after these attacks on Planned Parenthood and Margaret Sanger from Planned Parenthood’s own employees, Planned Parenthood moved to step away from its affiliation with its founder. Planned Parenthood of Greater New York released a statement announcing that it would “remove Sanger’s name from its Manhattan clinic because her ‘racist legacy’ and ‘deep belief in eugenic ideology’ can no longer be denied.”

Since that announcement, even more abortion provider employees have spoken out—adding to the claims of racism and mistreatment. According to one article, “26 employees at Planned Parenthood affiliates and the national office of NARAL, as well as 16 employees of other reproductive rights organizations,” were interviewed and discussed “toxic work environments where one woman stated: “I’ve worked at plenty of nonprofits, and I have never been treated so horribly in my life as I was at Planned Parenthood, to the point where I grew very depressed, had a lot of anxiety and cried in the bathroom almost every day.”

None of this is remotely surprising. Like we’ve said before, the abortion industry was founded on racist and eugenic ideologies—and those ideologies, to this day, target African Americans.

Moreover, the abortion industry exists to murder unborn babies in their mothers’ wombs. How can a work environment in such an industry be anything other than toxic and hostile?

Employees at a D.C. Planned Parenthood claimed that “the office was segregated, with the few women of color all sitting at the same row of desks” and that “their colleagues, including their white manager, would sometimes refer to to the Black and Latinx women in that row as the ‘barrio’ or the ‘ghetto girls.'” Staff at NARAL told interviewers “that it was an ‘open secret’ that the organization is ‘by and for cis white women,’ and that the board is more committed to the appearance of diversity than the reality of it.” Notably, employees still employed at the time they were interviewed “asked to remain anonymous because they feared professional retribution.”

While it is important that the toxic and racist nature of the abortion industry is exposed, it is just the tip of the iceberg. The abortion industry is indeed insidious. Its lies have crept into and permeated our society. It is indoctrinating children.

This is why we at the ACLJ remain ever vigilant, committed in our work to expose the evil deeds of the abortion industry. Ultimately, we know that righteousness wins, and that we will be on the winning side!
