VOUS Church Pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr. preached about Jesus’ inner circle at Kanye West’s Sunday Service on July 21. A video Wilkerson uploaded to Instagram shows him preaching on a large rock in West’s outdoor service.

“It’s not an accident or a coincidence that you showed up here,” he says. “He brought you here.”

He offered a message about Jesus and a challenge for each person to consider their inner circle.

“Jesus is about to go to the cross… and He knows He’s going to die and here He is with His best friends, His circle of friends,” he preached. “You’re in the right circle today … I don’t know what the rest of the week looks like, but today on this Sunday, you’re in a place full of grace, a place full of faith, and you’re connected to something bigger.”

Wilkerson says that at the crucial moment before the cross, when Jesus’ disciples should have been comforting Him, He was comforting them instead. He quotes John 14:1-6 (NLT), which says, in part: “He says, ‘do not let your hearts be troubled, trust in God, trust also in Me. … I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'”

Wilkerson closed his message with a call to salvation: “He’s not mad at you; He’s madly in love with you. Jesus didn’t come to make bad people good. Get a new narrative. It’s way bigger than that. He came to make dead people alive in Him.”

Later in the video, Wilkerson says Sunday Service “is the coolest church service I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to a lot.”

West’s church is a service for invite-only members and typically only involves a time of playing gospel music. Celebrities are often among those who attend.

Wilkerson married West and his wife, Kim Kardashian, in 2014. The celebrity pair remains good friends with Wilkerson and his wife, Pastor DawnCheré.
