It’s never personal but all legal. Our God is righteous and fair; this needs to be established because it’s one thing to have a perfect legal system, but it’s another to have a perverted judge abusing that system. This is why many times in the Bible, God condemned judges who took bribes. All judges on the earth are an extension of God, so when a judge is perverted and doesn’t deal in righteousness, justice is perverted.

“The Lord demands accurate scales and balances; He sets the standards for fairness,” (Prov. 16:11).

“The Lord detests double standards; He is not pleased by dishonest scales,” (Prov. 20:23).

Since the Judge of all creation is just, then all His judgments are based in fairness. This is why if a generational curse is active in someone’s life and bloodline, someone did something to cause it. If the Judge is forced to act because of a curse, just know it’s not personal but legal! Justice carried out that is personal is not justice but revenge.

There is a difference between revenge and vengeance. Revenge is the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands. But vengeance is punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or wrong. They are not the same thing. God never takes revenge; He always exacts vengeance.

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord,” (Rom. 12:19, KJV).

Let’s go further into understanding how vengeance and generational curses work together.

The Lord Takes Vengeance

During the time of King Ahab, one day he saw a vineyard he really liked that belonged to Naboth. The king offered him a large sum of money to buy it, but Naboth refused because it was his only vineyard and part of his family inheritance. The king returned to the palace saddened by the decline, and his wife, Jezebel, heard of it and devised a plan to have Naboth killed and his vineyard given to the king.

On the surface it looked like a normal transfer of property, but the means by which it was done was evil. Jezebel invited Naboth as an honored guest, then hired false accusers to stand up in the middle of dinner and accuse him of blasphemy. Naboth was stoned to death, and his property was given to the king—but heaven saw this evil plot and judged the bloodline of Ahab for it.

“You are to destroy the family of Ahab; you will avenge the murder of my prophets and of all my other people who were killed by Jezebel. The entire family of Ahab must be wiped out—every male, no matter who. I will destroy the family of Ahab as I destroyed the families of Jeroboam (son of Nebat) and of Baasha (son of Ahijah). Dogs shall eat Ahab’s wife Jezebel at Jezreel, and no one will bury her,” (2 Kings 9:7-10, TLB).

“‘I will repay him here on Naboth’s property for the murder of Naboth and his sons.’ So throw him out on Naboth’s field, just as the Lord said,” (2 Kings 9:26, TLB).

In this matter, the Lord didn’t take revenge. I’m sure Naboth’s family desired revenge. Instead, God decided to take vengeance. Many generational curses are nothing more than heaven taking vengeance for crimes—physical and spiritual—done by our ancestors. {eoa}
