Former Pop Star Gets Baptized: ‘Never Too Late’ to Commit Life to Christ

A former member of the Pussycat Dolls recently got baptized and proclaimed, “God you are amazing!”

Kaya Jones posted on her Facebook page her testimony of the dedication of her life to the Lord. Her rocky past of singing with the pop group led her down a path of self-service. She was not serving God, Jones said. “I knew I wasn’t following God’s plan for me.”

Before committing her life to Christ, much “damage & pain” came to her. Jones shared how just a year before signing with the Pussycat Dolls, she met Paula White-Cain, the pastor of City of Destiny Church in Apopka, Florida, whose ministry “sowed a seed” of faith in Jones’ life when she was 16. Jones said in a recent interview that she jumped at the chance to publicly declare her faith when the ministry announced it would resume baptisms after COVID-19 caused a temporary pause.

“It was a dream come true to be baptized by this woman who brought me to Christ through the TV,” Jones said of the televangelist.

“I’m finally now serving the Lord,” Jones continued. “God writes the most incredible outcomes.”

Shortly after launching the podcast Messages with Kaya on White-Cain’s Life Network for Women, Jones started visiting City of Destiny Church. It’s here that she discovered among the many celebrities she’s sung with—including Jagger, Britney, Fergie, Katy Perry and others—nothing and no one “compares to singing with Jesus.”

Flanked by a plethora of emojis adding color and emotion to her already soulful message, Jones encouraged others, it’s “never too late to give your life to Him.” She also professed her thanks to her Savior, saying, “Thank you for saving me! You take what the enemy meant for evil & you turn it for good!”

Even though Jones learned about God at a young age, rising to stardom in the entertainment industry crippled that young faith because the industry focus is “always just about glorifying yourself.”

She continued, “our industry pushes [faith] away so much and shuns it away,” but was encouraged to see other faith-filled artists becoming more vocal about their faith, including Justin Bieber, Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood.

Though Jones says her life was not in service of the Lord, “He had never left me.”

She tweeted after her baptism, “I was living a lie. Now I’m coming alive with you!”

The singer added in the interview that COVID-19 marked a shift in her walk with Jesus. The solitary time reminded her of the need for likeminded community, which caused Jones to reevaluate how she was sharing her faith with others.

“What I posted about, how I was speaking, it had started to really hit me at the core where I was reading the Word every single day,” she said. “I was sending out emails and text messages to family, friends, even acquaintances of Scriptures and positive messages every single day because I knew that people needed it.”

Her posts changed, but more than that, Jones says, she started viewing everything through the lens of Jesus. “I can’t attribute it to anything other than the Holy Spirit,” she explained. And once she declared her life committed fully to Jesus, Jones noticed a difference in the lives of her loved ones as well. Her mother returned to church, and her boyfriend became “more immersed in the Word,” but Jones knows that the work of the Holy Spirit within her is causing this shift. “It’s not me. It’s Him,” she believes.

Following the Lord in baptism is always special, but Jones recognized the uniqueness of dedicating her life to Christ at this time in her life.

“It is a great, wonderful thing to receive as an adult. It is a choice, your choice now, not given to you as a child,” she said. {eoa}
