7 Things to Consider Before Attending a Gay Wedding

Share:

Attending a gay wedding can pose a significant dilemma for Bible-believing Christians.

On the one hand, there is the desire to show love and friendship towards the individuals involved. On the other hand, there is the conviction that attending the wedding might be seen as endorsing a union that the Bible considers immoral and against its teachings.

For Christians, the invitation to a gay wedding raises conflicting emotions. While there is a desire to express love and maintain friendships, but there is also a concern about participating in an event that contradicts biblical principles.

Some Christians argue that attending a gay wedding can be an act of love and friendship, providing an opportunity to build relationships and share the gospel. They view Jesus as a friend of sinners and believe that showing unconditional love can open doors for future conversations about faith. However, it is essential to consider the potential implications carefully and consequences of attending a gay wedding.

Before attending a gay wedding, consider the following seven points from Vlad Savchuk about attending this event.

1. Marriage should be honored and a gay marriage dishonors its meaning.

Hebrews 13:4 tells us, “Marriage is to be honored among everyone, and the bed undefiled. But God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.” In a recent Charisma News interview, Bishop Patrick Wooden said “We are seeing people who are trying to make right of what your Bible says is wrong.”

2. A homosexual union is not a marriage.

Genesis 2:24 teaches us, “Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” The bible teaches us that marriage is reserved for one man and one woman. Marriages in other religions constitute biblical marriage even if the man and woman are not believers because it follows the biblical definition of this sacred union.

3. Homosexual unions are not joined in heaven.

Matthew 19:6 says, “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” Scripture is clear that homosexual relationships are an abomination and unnatural. As Christians we are not to be transformed by culture and what has become socially acceptable, but to stand strong in Scripture and embrace the teachings of Christ.

4. Homosexual unions are a sin, not a celebration.

There are compelling reasons for Christians to respectfully decline an invitation to a gay wedding. Firstly, participating in a gay wedding may be perceived as endorsing a union that goes against the biblical definition of marriage. The Bible emphasizes the importance of honoring marriage, and consistently presents marriage as a union between one man and one woman while considering homosexuality a sin.

5. Christian love should not rejoice in wrongdoing.

Celebrating a gay wedding implies rejoicing in sin, which is contrary to Christian love that rejoices in truth. Christians should lovingly reach out to individuals struggling with same-sex attraction while upholding the biblical stance on homosexuality. Philippians 4:4 says to rejoice in the Lord, not in things that are sinful according to the Word of God.

6. Attending a gay wedding makes you a witness.

Christians are called to be witnesses of Jesus and His truth, not witnesses of same-sex unions. Attending a gay wedding can send a confusing message to both those present at the wedding and the broader world. It may be misinterpreted as condoning and affirming a lifestyle that the Bible deems as sinful. Christians must prioritize their allegiance to Christ and maintain their witness to the gospel.

7. Attending a gay wedding goes against Christian convictions.

Attending a gay wedding goes against one’s biblical convictions. Christians derive their convictions from God’s Word, not from cultural trends or societal pressures. It is crucial to remain steadfast in upholding biblical truth and not compromise convictions due to fear of offending or facing backlash. Christians should continue to love and pray for their friends, while making it clear that they do not support decisions or actions that contradict the Bible’s teachings.

Navigating the decision to attend a gay wedding is undoubtedly challenging for Christians. While love and friendship are essential, they must be balanced with a commitment to biblical truth. Whether choosing to attend or respectfully decline, Christians should strive to demonstrate love while upholding biblical principles. {eoa}
