How to Stop Radicals From Demonizing America

It’s hard to watch news today, especially when those who hold to moral values are obliterated with onslaughts of “bigot,” “hater” and whatever “-aphobe.” So millions of Americans sit in silence as continual barrages of false accusations and propaganda aimed at eliminating their Judeo-Christian values—the very ones that undergird civil society—are attacked.

And the goal is not to simply attack but to eliminate.

Here’s why, as stated from one of our dad’s favorite seminary professors at Asbury Theological Seminary back in the mid-1970s:

“In order to justify their own behavior, they must, in the most sophisticated reasonings possible, demonstrate that their evil behavior is good, their darkness is light, and their bitterness sweet. This attitude is the end result of refusal to admit the absolute authority of a revealed Word. For sin is not content to live alongside righteousness anymore than disease will coexist with health. Sin can only be satisfied when righteousness is destroyed.”

Dad’s professor, Dr. John Oswalt, nailed it.

Scripture is clear that “righteousness exalts a nation” (Prov. 14:34). So if a group of radicals wants to destroy America, a major step is to vilify and demonize what is morally right in God’s eyes (our simple definition of righteousness).

And when the clarity of what is right and true is eliminated from culture, confusion and chaos rule the day, which is exactly what is needed for Satan to implement his ultimate agenda—to steal, kill and destroy. It’s just that simple.

But this cannot and will not happen when brave men and women stand up and speak.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said it best, “A man dies when he refuses to stand up for what is right.” This is the exact feeling we get when we watch the news and then do nothing—it becomes like a death on the inside. So we wanted to encourage you to get in the game, to speak the truth in love first in your home and then out in society.

It’s encouraging to know this isn’t the first time faithful believers have been accused and targeted, as the psalmist wrote thousands of years ago: “O God of my praise! For the mouth of the wicked and deceitful are opened against me; they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. They encircled me with words of hatred and fought against me without cause. In return for my love they are my adversaries, but I give myself to prayer. They have rewarded me evil for good and hatred for my love” (Ps. 109:1-5).

What a relevant verse.

So today, instead of hating the news because of the attacks, let’s revive our culture by praying earnestly for those doing the attacking. That’s a great way to get in the game.

As G.K. Chesterton once said: “The greatest political storm flutters only a fringe of humanity. But an ordinary man and an ordinary woman and their ordinary children literally alter the destiny of nations.” Especially when those ordinary men and women are praying for their accusers. {eoa}
