Live Nativity Stands Up for Religious Freedom

Share:

The annual nativity scene has returned to the plaza in front of the Supreme Court, courtesy of Faith & Liberty, with live animals including camels, donkeys, sheep, Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, wise men and precious baby Jesus. This lively but serious commemoration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ reaffirms faith at the core of our nation’s capital.

“This is our 18th year of celebrating the nativity, and coming the day after the beginning of deliberations on finally ending abortion, it is so important to remind our justices and our nation that the story of the birth of our Savior and the birth of the baby Jesus reminds us once again about the battle we are in,” says Faith & Liberty Vice President Peggy Nienaber

Conceived as a simple but powerful way to keep the cause of Christ at Christmas, the scene has become a fixture of the Capitol Hill celebration of Christmas. The event is much anticipated, its live animals trucked in from local sanctuaries and combined with live actors dressed in period costumes. This year, the baby Jesus has a special significance, as the very fate of babies yet to be born plays out just behind the manger set up in the brisk winter morning of Washington, D.C.

If politics is downstream from culture, groups like Faith & Liberty, whose home base is across the street from the Supreme Court building, make a difference by interacting daily with the local community to affect decisions going forward. It’s a loving, powerful example of sharing the love of the Lord Jesus Christ in a city and a nation that so needs His love at Christmas and always.

“Pray for us as we work year around to reach Washington, D.C., for Christ and share His love, particularly at this time of the year,” says Nienaber. {eoa}
