How to Rebuke COVID-19’s Death Threats

Share:

I wrote in a previous article about the enemy’s “broadcast” of death that bombarded me during an unexpected bout with COVID-19. While I continue to pray that you never contract this virus, I know that if you find yourself in that fight like I did, there are some tools that can help you shut down and stamp out the lying voice of the enemy.

For me, COVID-19 surprised me when it came with a full narrative of what my foreboding death would be like. Scrupulous stories that included my wife and family moving on, people finding my body in horrific conditions, the kingdom work I was doing coming apart disastrously and so on. The battle raged in my mind and the broadcast was a 24/7 line-up of what my sudden death would be like for me and for others, with vivid detail and imagery.

Now this is so unlike my average thought-life that I could easily discern the contrast between my normal, hope-filled thinking and this sludge of evil I was being proselytized with. Still, I initially struggled to turn it off and overcome. God is faithful, however, and I believe He did use what was meant for harm to equip me to fight this in a way that will work for any believer who belongs to Christ. By that I believe the following metaphorical ceiling can easily become your floor today.

First, I believe it is important that we each keep a living, theological understanding of our inheritance as sons and daughters of Father God. As Christians we are new creations, raised up with the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the grave. Secondly, it’s important we understand that death is not the moment of salvation. Salvation and newness come the moment we accept Jesus Christ as Savior, not after we die. Key Scriptures might include John 10:10, Psalm 91 and especially 1 Corinthians 15:54b (NKJV) where it says, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY” in all caps. In other words, “death” doesn’t get to make any decisions here, no matter what it claims. God numbers our days and the thief doesn’t get to steal even one hour, much less years.

Finally, we cannot underestimate the need and authority involved in prayer, worship, the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus and constant communion with the reality of the Holy Spirit’s residence within our physical bodies. Be encouraged because pulling together the full armor of God will hit this thing back with a sledgehammer full of God’s zeal for you. The noise of death will be swallowed up in Christ’s victory over your life before it even opens its filthy mouth.

The CDC reported that depression and anxiety seem to be increasing this time of year. I want people to know that this broadcast of death can be exposed! Visit us at our website for new mentoring programs that equip you by exposing these attacks. {eoa}
