The ‘1 Percent’ of Abortions

The speaker pointed to the flags in front of Thomas Jefferson’s majestic capitol in Richmond. He noted the figures on the Virginia flag. A woman stands triumphant over the prostrate figure of a tyrant. “Sic semper tyrannis,” the young speaker said, “that’s Virginia’s motto: ‘Thus always to tyrants.’ The tyrant has been cast down. In his hands are the broken chains of enslavement and the scourge.”

The passionate young man then asked: “Who is the tyrant today?” Planned Parenthood, he said, the organization that holds so much of America in bondage to abortion, with its chains of financial, political and legal enslavement. “What is the scourge?” That whip used to lacerate the flesh in medieval times today is the multi-strand lashes of Planned Parenthood’s lies.

Ryan Bomberger was the speaker. And his powerful message resonated with the crowd of nearly 500 who gathered under the bell tower on the grounds of Virginia’s State Capitol in advance of the Roe v. Wade 40th commemoration. Those who rallied outdoors on the lawn in spring-like weather told me the turnout this year was four times last year’s attendance. They are living proof that this pro-life movement is not dying—so long as any Americans live, it can never die.

This capitol building—modeled on the Maison Carée that Jefferson saw in France—was once the seat of government of the Confederacy. This week, the capitol grounds rang with cries of liberty for all—born and unborn.

Ryan is the head of the Radiance Foundation and his campaign to carry truth into America’s inner cities has raised the ire of Planned Parenthood. Ryan asks why it is that so many of that evil enterprise’s killing centers are located in or near minority neighborhoods? Why is the abortion ratio for black women in New York City six times that of white women per 1,000 live births?

Ryan isn’t suggesting this deadly disparate impact means that black women want more abortions. He would doubtless agree with Feminist for Life Frederika Matthewes-Green.

She says a woman wants an abortion the way a trapped animal wants to gnaw off its leg.

Ryan’s billboards cry out: “Too many aborted” and, showing an expectant black mother and father, married, they say: “Black is beautiful.”

Bomberger describes the family he grew up in this way: “We were that typical American family—of 15. Mom and Dad, married, and some of their kids homegrown, the rest imports. Vietnamese, American Indian, some white, some black, some black and white—like me.”

Ryan’s very existence, his amazing God-given gifts, give the lie to Planned Parenthood propaganda. Ryan’s birth mother was raped, but she bravely chose life and adoption for Ryan. “I’m the one percent that Planned Parenthood uses to justify the 99 percent of its abortions,” he says.

Ryan’s life is dedicated to life. He and his wife have adopted some children and given birth to some. They are the model for how God’s love transforms lives.

Planned Parenthood says unplanned means unwanted and unwanted means unloved.

And if you’re unloved, it’s better for you never to have lived at all.

This is what my friend, the late Rev. Richard Neuhaus, called their “lethal logic.”

Planned Parenthood gets more than half a billion dollars in tax monies, federal, state and local. They would be the poster children for crony capitalism—if any of the children carried into their deadly precincts ever survived to be shown on a poster.

As a presidential candidate, then-Sen. Barack Obama went to Planned Parenthood’s convention a year before he appeared in front of those Greek columns in Denver. He pledged to fulfill ever jot and tittle of the Planned Parenthood agenda. To gain his high office, he was willing to shackle himself to that corporate corpse. And as president, he threatened to shut down the government rather than yield one penny of the blood money that goes from the Treasury to Planned Parenthood.

Sen. Obama chose as his running mate one of the most obedient of Planned Parenthood’s minions—Joe Biden. In his own memoirs, the late Warren Rudman of New Hampshire described how Biden came running down the train platform at Wilmington’s Amtrak station. Biden was laughing and weeping, he was so happy. He hugged Rudman effusively.

Biden was grateful for Rudman’s behind-the-hand reassurance that David Souter would be wholly behind abortion-on-demand had proven true. As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Biden had taken a huge risk voting for Souter. But now, Biden’s future was secure. Souter would keep the abortion centers in operation.

Family Research Council was proud, along with the Family Foundation and almost 20 other state and national pro-life allies, to co-sponsor the Virginia Stands for Life Rally and to recommend Ryan and his message for this unforgettable event. Young pro-lifers like Lila Rose of Live Action and Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation will help us to rescue America’s future.
