A Texas pastor recanted his discrimination claims after the company caught him in his lie.
Church of Open Doors Founder Jordan Brown dropped his lawsuit against grocery chain Whole Foods, which he initially filed because he said the baker wrote a gay slur on the pastor’s cake.
Whole Foods released security footage that revealed the pastor received precisely what he ordered: a cake proclaiming “Love Wins!” with no gay slur underneath.
“I want to apologize to Whole Foods and its team members for questioning the company’s commitment to its values, and especially the baker associate, who I understand was put in a terrible position because of my actions,” Brown said. “I apologize to the LGBT community for diverting attention from real issues. I also want to apologize to my partner, my family, my church family and my attorney.”
Whole Foods, which filed a counter suit to stamp out the pastor’s lies, dropped its complaint as well.
“We’re very pleased that the truth has come to light. Given Mr. Brown’s apology and public admission that his story was a complete fabrication, we see no reason to move forward with our counter suit to defend the integrity of our brand and team members,” the company said in a statement.
