Faith Center shooting

A gunman in Miami opened fire in a church parking lot as members walked to their cars after Sunday morning service.

The shots sent members of Florida’s Faith Center Ministries diving for cover.

“I heard gunshots like boom boom! I thought it was fireworks,” churchgoer Henrietha Gary recalled.

“They basically told everyone to go inside and to get back into the sanctuary,” Dan Thompson, another chuchgoer, said.

Another woman did what comes natural in church: “What could I do, I just prayed,” she said.

Police say the gunman shot his ex-girlfriend several times. She managed to escape and was rushed to a hospital for emergency surgery.

The shooter then took his own life in the church parking lot.

The church was more full than usual Sunday morning because well-known evangelist Benny Hinn was speaking.

Police did not speculate on what led to the shooting.
