#TacoOrBeerChallenge Emerges to Fund Abortion

Taco or Beer Challenge

While the Ice Bucket Challenge is stirring the pro-life pot with revelations about the ALS Association engaging in embryonic stem-cell research, the pro-abortion camp is working to create a nefarious viral fund-raising campaign uniquely its own.

It’s called the Taco or Beer Challenge, referred to on social media as #TacoOrBeerChallenge.

Andrea Grimes of RH Reality Check and the Texas Observer wants you to eat a taco, drink a beer and fund abortion. With the Ice Bucket Challenge raising over $94 million to date for the ALS Association in a viral campaign that has seen everyday Joes and celebrities dump freezing-cold ice water on their heads (or make a $100 donation) the Taco or Beer Challenge allows you to “stay dry—ideally—and somebody gets help paying for a legal abortion.”

“What do ice buckets have to do with ALS? I don’t know. What do tacos and beer have to do with abortion? I don’t know that either,” Grimes wrote in her article.

“What I do know is that eating tacos and drinking beer is more pleasurable than getting doused with ice water, and that lawmakers around the country are passing increasingly restrictive anti-abortion access laws. Which means abortion funds are now more necessary than ever as legal abortion becomes harder than ever to access—especially for those of us who don’t live in major urban centers.”

What’s next, individual Kickstarter campaigns for video taping your own abortion? Emily Letts, a 25-year-old abortion counselor hailing from New Jersey, not only decided she wasn’t ready to parent a bundle of joy—she actually taped the procedure and posted the video on YouTube to “show women that there is such a thing as a positive abortion story.”

But I digress.

“Because abortion stigma is real, I know it can be hard to make that first abortion fund donation. It’s one thing to support abortion in theory, and a whole other thing to actually help pay for someone else’s—a total stranger’s, most likely—abortion,” Grimes wrote. “There’s a strong cultural narrative that tells us people who get abortions are bad, irresponsible or cruel. That they are undeserving of care and understanding. That they are confused or heartless.”

Grimes went on to say “that narrative f—ing sucks.” Well, it only “sucks” for the baby that’s being killed in the womb of a mother who didn’t want him or her.

I’m glad Grimes realizes there’s still a stigma on abortion—and I’m glad there is still a stigma on abortion. It’s no different than any other murder, except that it’s often performed by a licensed physician rather than a psychopath or hardened criminal. It’s the same as any other murder, except the victim is actually handed over to his executioner by one who is supposed to protect the child.

As for the strong cultural narrative, Grimes has it all wrong. No one in the pro-life movement is saying people who get abortions are bad. It’s the act that’s bad, not the person. No one is suggesting that post-abortive women are irresponsible or cruel or underserving of care and understanding, confused or heartless.

Women who get abortions are typically fearful and angst-ridden before they walk through the abortion clinic’s doors, and many suffer with guilt and shame for years after they walk out. But that’s not because the pro-life movement is telling them they are bad. It’s because they need to receive Christ and His forgiveness so they can move on from their past and into a brighter future.

“The Taco or Beer Challenge is about doing what’s right for your own taco and beverage needs, just like having an abortion—or not—is about doing what’s right for yourself and your family,” Grimes writes. “The only way to fail the Taco or Beer Challenge is to not donate to an abortion fund. I believe in tacos, I believe in beer, and I believe in you.”

Grimes misses the point entirely. As controversial as the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has become in some Christian circles, it pales in comparison to a campaign aiming to raise millions to fund abortions. And unfortunately, Grimes is off to a good start. Twitter is lit up with the #TacoOrBeerChallenge hashtag, along with photos and videos of pro-abortion activists gnoshing on Mexican food and throwing back alcoholic beverages as they essentially celebrate death.

If you are considering having an abortion, please reconsider now. Get quiet and ask God to speak to your heart about what He wants and wait for an answer. I believe He’ll speak to your heart about birthing the life inside you. And if you’ve already had an abortion, you can be forgiven by the One who hung on a cross to pay the price for the sin of abortion—and every other sin.
