In our current cultural crisis, a jolt can do us good. Buckle your seat belt and prepare for an alarming social development.

Why is this important? Let's put things in context.

This summer I'm honored to be serving with Matt Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, in what is called the "Pastors and Patriots Initiative." Mike Huckabee, David Barton, Samuel Rodriguez, James Robison, Dr. Alveda King, Ralph Reed, Randy Rebold and other leaders passionate about awakening America are all on the team. We hold a deep-seated conviction that time is running out to stop the spiral of silence among Christians today.

Biweekly I'm meeting throughout America with leaders in luncheons before "Who Will Stand?" citywide events underscoring the urgency of the hour. By November we will have distributed 150,000 Silence is Not an Option DVDs and equipped leaders to take clear stands on moral issues. Matt believes "as pastors and churches begin to stand up and speak out against evil and injustice, the spiral will unravel and justice will prevail!"

On the wall in my study I have an autographed picture of one of my heroes, President Ronald Reagan. He once gave this warning: "History will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent it's happening." We're working hard to avoid this.

A preeminent component in these strategic gatherings is to impress the gravity of the situation and necessity of responding before time runs out. Many Americans simply  don't yet comprehend our nation's house isn't experiencing a temporary malfunction—we're on the precipice of a total collapse!

Quoting a barrage of statistics that becomes a blur helps somewhat but I've discovered we must bring things down to the personal level. Then I find people often have that "Ah ha!" moment jolting them into reality and prayerful action. That's what is needed today.

To illustrate what I mean, let me put a spotlight on something happening this very week that would be unthinkable a short time ago. It underscores how far we've fallen in our society and how time really is of the essence to see a spiritual turn around.

Archie Dies Saving a Homosexual's Life

Remember as a youngster snuggling up under the covers or laying across the bed after pulling out a stack of your favorite comics? Superman. Batman. Wonder Woman. Casper the Friendly Ghost. And almost everyone's favorite from Riverdale High—Archie!

The adventures of redheaded Archie and his friends Veronica, Betty and Jughead were wholesome, kid-friendly family fun. It all began in 1941. Seventy-three years—what a wonderful legacy.

On Wednesday, everything changed. In the words of progressive Archie comic publisher and co-CEO John Goldwater, "A new Riverdale is born!"

Suffice it to say, our freckled-face friend is fatally shot saving the life of his homosexual buddy, Kevin, who is now part of the gang. Kev enjoys his gay marriage and serves as a senator solidly pushing gun-control and modeling diversity for all the young readers.

But wait, there's more!

Archie Comics also offers its youthful and impressionable audience a hard-core horror series, "Afterlife with Archie" plus the chilling adventures of "Sabrina" the teenage witch.

This 16-year-old role model for young daughters is born of a warlock. Her aunt Salem is a witch that turns into a talking cat. Madame Satan is the villain and there is a Witches' Council and abundant curses for all to enjoy.

The writer of this series, Roberto Agquirre–Sacasa, describes the comic as a "story about witches and witchcraft, demonology and occultism."

He boasts, "I am really good at making things dark and ominous."

The above series features zombies, undead, incantations, false gods and even Necronom-con (whoever or whatever this evil figure represents, yet it sure isn't good as the name suggests). Archie disguises himself as Freddy Krueger—the demonized serial killer—and there are Nosferatu posters on Jughead's wall.

Harmless fun?

Scripture clearly tells us that all occult practices are condemned by God as being an abomination unto him and are under His curse. "Thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one ... that useth divination (fortunetelling), or an observer of times (soothsayer), or an enchanter (magician), or a witch (sorceress). Or a charmer (hypnotist), or a consulter with familiar spirits (spirit medium), or a wizard (clairvoyant or psychic), or a necromancer (medium who consults the dead). For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord" (Deut. 18:9-12, KJV).

Any occult involvement violates the first and the great commandment plus invokes God's curse upon its adherents. There are deep and dangerous powers of darkness at work through the occult and seemingly innocent comic books like this open the door for naïve and unsuspecting children.

Here's the Deal

This tragic example from Archie Comics is but one of many alarming developments in our society. We can either throw up our hands in despair or respond to the current wooing of the Holy Spirit to pray and get engaged in courageously bringing the gospel and truth to this generation.

Like those who partied on the Titanic, many Americans are unaware of the disaster looming ahead. Multitudes seem to be asleep or in some sort of fog. Others are in denial. Some simply shrug off the warning signs and cite our resiliency, heralding the inevitable triumph of the American spirit.

Having witnessed the decline of the British Empire, as well as the collapse of 19 of 21 civilizations (not from outside takeover but from within—moral decline), it behooves us to take stock and do whatever we can to get moving in the right direction. The ancient cry, "If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" reminds us who should lead the way.

Silence is not an option!

The countdown to determine our nation's future is in our hands as God is giving us this wonderful opportunity to pray and participate in another great awakening for the glory of God.
