How Jesus Is Revealed in Every Book of the Bible

I was filled with the Holy Spirit three weeks before I went to college, and I immediately became a serious student of the Bible. I remember waking up early and reading Scripture at my tiny desk in my dorm before my roommate woke up. My hunger for God’s Word became insatiable, and my studies laid a strong spiritual foundation that I’ve built on ever since.

One thing I discovered in those early days is that the Bible is all about Jesus. It is never boring when you realize this! It becomes like a puzzle to solve. I found Him in every book—even in obscure passages of the Old Testament that were written long before Jesus came to earth.

Ephesians 1:17 says we can be “filled with the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” Do you want that? You can find Jesus in every part of the Bible. Below is a list of some of the ways He is revealed:

In Genesis, Jesus is the seed of the woman who crushes the serpent’s head (3:15). His amazing salvation was promised to us at the beginning of the Bible!

In Exodus, Jesus is the Passover lamb whose blood protected God’s people from death (12:13).

In Leviticus, Jesus is the spotless high priest who appears before God on our behalf to cleanse us (21:1-24).

In Numbers, Jesus is foreshadowed by the bronze serpent that Moses lifted up in the wilderness (21:6-9). Jesus became a curse for us so we could be free.

In Deuteronomy, Moses declared that God “will raise up a prophet like me among you” (18:15). Moses knew that Jesus was coming, and that Jesus would do a better job than Moses of bringing people close to God.

In Joshua, Jesus is the fearless conqueror who defeats our enemies and gives us the Promised Land.

In Judges, Jesus is our brave deliverer who rescues us from evil.

In Ruth, Jesus is our kinsman redeemer who invites us into His fields of blessing and enters into a covenant relationship with us.

In 1 and 2 Samuel, Jesus is the righteous ruler, who—like David—established His kingdom on earth (2 Kings 5:6-7).

In 1 and 2 Kings, Jesus is foreshadowed in Elijah, who gave a double portion of His power to his disciple Elisha. Jesus did the same for His disciples.

In 1 and 2 Chronicles, Jesus is foreshadowed in Solomon, who built a temple that was filled with God’s glory (2 Kings 5:11-14). We are that temple today.

In Ezra, Jesus is the perfect priest who teaches us His Word and leads us to freedom.

In Nehemiah, Jesus is the comforter who rebuilds and restores us into His image.

In Esther, Jesus is revealed as the unseen force behind circumstances, always working to protect God’s people.

In Job, we find Jesus as our Redeemer and Advocate—the one who argues our case and declares us to be righteous (19:25-27).

In Psalms, Jesus’ sufferings on the cross are described in detail (22:1-31).

In Proverbs, Jesus is the All-Wise God who teaches, guides and disciplines us.

In Ecclesiastes, Jesus is the ultimate meaning of life when the world seems meaningless.

In Song of Songs, Jesus is our beloved Bridegroom (5:10).

In Isaiah, Jesus is the Messiah who suffered for us like a “lamb that is led to slaughter” (53:7).

In Jeremiah, we see a foreshadowing of Jesus as the weeping prophet who calls us to repent of our sins.

In Lamentations, we learn that the mercy and faithfulness of Jesus never cease, even in times of calamity or judgment (3:22-23).

In Ezekiel, we see the glorious Son of God seated on the throne of heaven (1:26-28).

In Daniel, Jesus is the “fourth man” who rescued the three Hebrews from the flames of persecution (3:24-25).

In the 12 minor prophets, Jesus is the “messenger” who comes with a refiner’s fire to purify God’s people (Malachi 3:1-4).

In Matthew, Jesus is the promised Messiah who was predicted by all the Jewish prophets.

In Mark, Jesus is the powerful Savior who healed sick people, cast out demons and raised the dead.

In Luke, Jesus is both God and man, born of a virgin and full of compassion for sinners.

In John, Jesus is revealed as the “Great I Am” (John 8:58)—He was with God before the creation of the world, and He is one with the Father.

In Acts, Jesus is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit.

In Romans, Jesus is the One who justifies us and makes us righteous.

In 1 and 2 Corinthians, Jesus is the foundation of our faith and the source of all grace.

In Galatians, Jesus is the one who frees us from the condemnation of the law.

In Ephesians, Jesus is the one who reconciles us to each other and makes us one body.

In Philippians, Jesus is the source of our joy.

In Colossians, Jesus is the head of the church.

In 1 and 2 Thessalonians, Jesus is the Sanctifier who calls us to walk in holiness.

In 1 and 2 Timothy, Jesus calls us to disciple the next generation.

In Titus, Jesus offers salvation to all—including all Gentiles.

In Philemon, Jesus is the one who paid to rescue us from slavery.

In Hebrews, Jesus gives us a salvation so much better than what the Old Covenant offered.

In James, Jesus empowers us to not only have faith but to live a life of good works.

In 1 and 2 Peter, Jesus calls us to grow from spiritual babies into mature believers.

In 1, 2 and 3 John, Jesus, the source of love, gives us the power to love each other.

In Jude, Jesus warns us to reject spiritual deception.

In Revelation, Jesus reveals Himself as the matchless Son of God, and He invites us to live in His eternal kingdom with Him.

The Bible is a treasure chest full of priceless gems, but casual inquirers will never discover them. You must become a seeker. You must learn to dig. If you’ve neglected God’s Word, open it again and let the Holy Spirit reveal Jesus on every page.
