Rapper Mack Maine feels grateful to be alive after learning his mother was originally scheduled to have an abortion.

The Young Money Entertainment president has released a new track called Celebrate, in which he details his mom Mary’s last-minute decision to carry her son to full term.

Explaining the track, which contains the line “They said I was s’posed to die as a fetus,” he tells MTV’s RapFix Live, “My mom was about to abort me. She was about to have an abortion. She was lying on the (operating) table and she changed her life at that moment… She got saved and became a Christian.”

In the deeply-personal tune, Maine, real name Jermaine Preyan, also discusses the sadness he felt after the death of his grandmother, rapping, “Never seen my pops cry ’til I seen my Grams died/ And I’m here to tell him that I miss my Grams too/ And I wish I could hug her for mothers day too/ And I feel the same way that you do/ But we gotta still move on so she can just smile down on us (sic).”

Opening up about that difficult time in his life, he adds, “It really affected my dad a lot. I lost him for a year behind that. My dad, he turned to drugs… It really took a toll on him.”
