Priscilla Shirer preached earlier this year at Oasis Church (stylized as “Oasis / LA”) in Valley Village, California. She came to preach at Legacy Nights, and the pastor described to her that the events were “a revival of sorts” dedicated to seeking “an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.” Shirer preached on the concept of revival—and what it actually means—as well as the work of the Holy Spirit.

She began with a story about how John Wesley would pray for revival and—inspired by Wesley’s example—Billy Graham prayed that God would “do it again.” Shirer echoed that call with a fervent prayer for God to bring revival not just in the United States but internationally.

“I’m praying for revival,” Shirer said. “I’m talking about straight-up, old-school, flat-footed revival. I’m talking about where the Holy Spirit breaks out so clearly and so fully that there is not one person that walks the face of the earth that does not know that there is a God somewhere and that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to redeem us from our sins.”

Later, Shirer explained that revival is all about God revealing His presence. She said believers should desire that intimate form of revelation, because God desires to give it to us.

“Our God is omnipresent, but there should be a hunger in us—the people of God—to want more than just His omnipresence,” Shirer said. “We should want His manifest presence. Manifest is revival. It’s His clear outpouring. It is the detecting of His fingerprints in our lives. It’s when we hear His voice by His Spirit whispering to us and speaking to us, and this has always been the desire of God: to reveal Himself. That’s what revival is. It is a revelation. It is a revealing of the tangible experience with God. That’s what He’s always wanted.”
