First Lady Melania Trump unveiled this year’s White House Christmas decorations in a video posted to social media Monday.

The theme for this year’s decor is “America the Beautiful.” In a tweet, President Donald Trump’s wife said her design is intended to “pay tribute to the majesty of our great Nation.”

The White House press release reads, “From coast to coast, our country is blessed with boundless natural wonders. The timeless treasures represented in this year’s holiday showcase remind us of the true American spirit. Together, we celebrate this land we are all proud to call home.”

Each room in the White House is decorated in honor of noteworthy people or events. The White House Library “shines a spotlight on women who were pioneers for gender equality and the impact of their voices on our nation’s story.” It also commemorates a tribute to the first lady’s 19th Amendment child art competition. “The décor highlights women at the forefront of American achievements who have paved the way for generations to come,” the release reads.

Additionally, the Gold Star Family Tree in the East Wing honors those who have served our country, offering the greatest of sacrifices: their very lives. “This year, families who decorated the tree placed the name of their fallen family member on ribbon that will adorn the tree.”

The first lady expressed her sincere thanks in a Friday tweet for the volunteers who came together to decorate the White House:

2020’s theme “America the Beautiful” offers a fitting succession to the 2019 theme: “The Spirit of America,” of which the White House 2019 press release said, “Designed by First Lady Melania Trump, the White House decorations celebrate the courageous individuals who have shaped our country and kept the American spirit alive.”
