With the Christmas holiday travel season already underway, millions more a gearing up to travel in the midst of a “once in a generation” winter storm.

The massive snowstorm is sweeping across the United States and bringing extreme cold with it.

The storm system is forecast to produce a multitude of weather hazards over the next several days, as “heavy snowfall, strong winds and dangerously cold temperatures span from the Intermountain West through the Plains, the Great Lakes and the central Appalachians,” the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center announced Wednesday.

The massive swath of wintery bluster is expected to drop temperatures in some parts of the mountain and Midwest regions by over 50 degrees.

The NWS in Boulder, Colorado, warned that temperatures could drop so severely that they become “life threatening” to residents.

“We promise that’s not an exaggeration. This is likely to be the coldest day in 32 years in Denver, so many people have not experienced a cold snap like this. We highly recommend avoiding extended periods of being outside,” NWS Boulder wrote on Twitter.

This sentiment was echoed by the NWS in Cheyenne, Wyoming, which alerted residents in the Great Plains region of the impending temperature change.

“We can not emphasize enough – the #cold air and wind chill forecast tomorrow (Wed) night thru Thursday feature some of the most extreme values you will ever see!” NWS Cheyenne tweeted.

As the ‘bomb-cyclone’ transforms into a blizzard for much of the Midwest and Southern states before moving up into the Northeast on Friday, several states’ governors have already issued states of emergency.

So far Georgia, North Carolina and Kentucky governors have all declared a state of emergency for the impending cold and potential weather conditions accompanying it, while 37 states have issued severe weather alerts.

This is another in a long line of freak occurrences in nature for the year. With record droughts followed by heavy flooding across the world, it is clear why many believe that humanity is living in the End Times. However, in times such as this Christians have the responsibility to lift up this life-threatening situation to the Lord. He is in control of the weather, for He created it. Having prayer and intercession become the first line of defense against this sort of weather occurrence is a necessity for believers.

Nothing, including the weather, is greater than God, as Jeremiah writes in chapter 10, verses 12-13, “He has made the earth by His power. He has established the world by His wisdom and has stretched out the heavens by His discretion. When He utters His voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and He causes the vapors to ascend from the remote parts of the earth; He makes lightning with rain, and brings out the wind from His storehouses.” {eoa}
