America Remembers Fallen 20 Years After 9/11 Attacks

Share:

It was an event that shocked the world and shook America to its core. The coordinated attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon 20 years ago killed thousands of innocent Americans and put the country on a course toward the longest war in America’s history. The hurt and devastation these attacks caused for many are still being felt to this day.

As a result of the events of 9/11, American officials sent some of the best and brightest to track down and eliminate al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden who claimed to be responsible. After a 10-year manhunt, then-president Barack Obama announced that SEAL Team Six had accomplished the unthinkable—taking out the man responsible for the horrendous attack on American citizens. America breathed a sigh of relief.

Tragically, this was a peace that would not last. Not long after SEAL Team Six accomplished its goal, 30 Americans, including 17 U.S Navy SEALs, most from the storied SEAL Team Six, along with five Navy support personnel, three Air Force pararescue operators and the five-man U.S. Army flight crew, made the ultimate sacrifice for their country when their U.S. Army helicopter exploded over the Tangi Valley in Afghanistan, killing all onboard.

The loss of 30 American military personnel, which was the largest loss-of-life incident in the Afghanistan war, so soon after such a triumph, was incomprehensible. Even a decade later, both the mission and the aftermath are shrouded in mystery and coverup. What really happened that fateful night to 30 American heroes?

On August 2, 2021, RPM Films and Triple Horse Studios released “Fallen Angel Call Sign: Extortion 17,” the dramatic new documentary that reveals the shocking story of the tragic deaths of 30 Navy SEALs and U.S. Special Operations. “Fallen Angel” is featured on SalemNOW, the streaming platform from Salem Media.

Don Brown is the author of Call Sign Extortion 17: The Shoot-Down of SEAL Team Six, the 2015 nonfiction military exposé on which the film, Fallen Angel is based.

Brown says of Fallen Angel, “Ten years ago, on Aug. 6, 2011, America suffered our single largest loss-of-life in the Afghan war. The shootdown, which occurred just 96 days after Navy SEALs took out Osama bin Laden, occurred under questionable circumstances that make their sacrifice seem like a pre-planned set up. This film reveals the truth behind what happened that August night. We had the rare opportunity to tell the story of the heroism and sacrifice of an elite SEAL team.”

For years, many have wondered: Why was the black box missing from the crash site after a Taliban-controlled rocket shot the U.S. Army helicopter out of the sky? Why did it take 17 minutes to fly a 10-minute mission? Why was the fire control officer of the AC-130 Gunship flying above denied permission to engage the enemy? Now, as military personnel finally come forward, so do revealing answers. The explosive truth is that government missteps put our dedicated troops in harm’s way.

Says Brown of Fallen Angel, “The film is supplemented by the official military record of the mission, which has discrepancies—showing the possibility of negligence or the concealment of key facts.”

As Fox News’ Sean Hannity noted of this story, “Every American, every kid in school, should be taught what happened with Extortion 17.”
