Tony Perkins Says Obama is Hostile to Christianity

As the 2012 presidential election cycle heats up, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins is throwing fuel on an old fire: President Obama’s faith.

In a Family Talk with Dr. James Dobson broadcast last week, Perkins made his opinion of Obama’s ties to Christianity crystal clear with a string of strong words.

“I have no doubt, as you look back over the last two and a half of years of this administration, that the president has used his bully pulpit—he has done public policy but beyond the public policy that he’s pushed for—that it’s created an atmosphere that is hostile toward Christianity,” Perkins said.

“And we’re seeing this played out all across this culture. And the courts have been emboldened by this. And now you see the military doing it as well. There’s no end to this as long as you have someone who is the commander-in-chief, who is the president of this country that has a disdain for Christianity.”

This wasn’t the first attack Perkins launched on Obama’s professed Christianity. During a Fox News broadcast last week, Perkins commented on the Bureau of Land Management’s move to prevent FDR’s D-Day prayer from being added to the World War II Memorial at the Washington Mall.

“This is further evidence that the administration has created an environment that is hostile towards American history—but in particular towards Christianity,” Perkins said. “I hope America wakes up and realizes what this administration is doing to this country and how they want to radically and fundamentally change America. They want to erase every aspect of America’s heritage. Any president, any official in history that has embraced Christianity, is no longer welcome in this administration. That’s the environment they are creating.”
