John Kasich Tells Christians to ‘Move On’ Over Same-Sex Marriage

During a speech in Virginia on Monday, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a Republican presidential candidate, took part in a forum at University of Virginia.

During the course of the forum, he was asked about his thoughts on the matter of same-sex marriage. And, despite claiming earlier to be “lifelong conservative,” his answer seemed to come from a more “moderate” ideology.

“People talk about religious liberty, and I think frankly our churches should not be forced to do anything that’s not consistent with them, but if you’re a cupcake maker and someone wants a cupcake, make them a cupcake,” he said. “Let’s not have a big lawsuit or argument over all this stuff. Move on.”

Despite the comments that call into question how committed he would actually be at defending religious liberty, the mainstream media instead focused on other “controversial” comments he made earlier in the day. In remarking about his earliest political campaigns, he noted he had the support of many women “who left their kitchens to go out and go door-to-door and to put yard signs up” on his behalf.

Kasich was lambasted for the comments. But his communications team said they accurately reflected the nature of those campaigns, which they said were “made up of stay-at-home moms who believed deeply in the changes he wanted to bring to them and their families.”
